How do I install the kit?

Please visit our YouTube page for a full in-depth tutorial on how to mount your OTL Stripe Kit to your mower: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nroUyVhMlIY&t=9s

Which brush size should I choose for my mower?

Both brush sizes work on any mower deck — it really comes down to personal preference.

  • If your deck is 21–22", you're in the sweet spot — both sizes work great.

  • 18" gives stripes that stay between the wheels

  •  24" gives stripes that extend past the wheelbase

  • For decks under 21", the 18" is a better fit.

  • For decks over 22", the 24" still works well, but as your deck gets wider, the stripes will start to center within the wheelbase instead of going past it.

Q: How do I use the OTL Plugger to repair dead or damaged spots in my lawn?

The OTL Plugger helps you naturally fix burnt, dead, or thinning patches by transplanting healthy plugs from your lawn. It creates clean, square holes for a tight fit and promotes new growth.

Step-by-Step Instructions:

  1. Prep the Damaged Area:
Remove dead grass and debris by dethatching, leaving clean bare soil.

  2. Water Both Areas:
Lightly water the healthy donor spot to soften the soil for easy plug removal and to help the plug’s roots bond once transplanted. Also, water the damaged area to prepare it for receiving the plug and to support soil bonding.

  3. Remove a Healthy Plug:
Step the OTL Plugger firmly into a healthy turf spot, lift it straight up, and manually push the plug out from the top.

  4. Prepare the Hole:
Cut a matching hole in the damaged spot with the plugger. If needed, add some soil to level the hole and water it to soften the soil for better plug bonding.

  5. Insert the Plug:
Place the healthy plug into the hole and press/pat it firmly with your foot or hands so it sits snug and level with the lawn surface.

  6. Re-use the Dead Plug in the Donor Spot:
Put the old plug into the hole left behind in the healthy area. Poke small holes to aerate, then cover with topsoil and  grass seed to encourage regrowth.

  7. Water Regularly:
Keep both areas moist for the next few weeks to help the transplanted plug’s roots bond with the soil and to support seed germination in the donor spot.

By following these steps, your lawn will naturally fill in and recover using its own grass

Will this fit my mower?

Our kit is designed to fit most standard push mowers and self-propelled mowers, with or without a bag. Minor adjustments may be needed depending on your mower’s design. You may need to try different angles and heights during installation to achieve the perfect fit—the brush should lay flat against the grass, not at an angle, to ensure optimal striping performance. Most installations are straightforward and require only basic tools. Please note: the kit may not fit certain models of electric lawn mowers. We recommend speaking with our live chat and providing your mower’s make and model before placing your order. A detailed installation video will be linked to guide you through the process step by step.

How is this different from roller kits?

Unlike roller kits that compress the grass and soil with weight, our brush-based kit applies pressure directly to the grass blades through spring-loaded brushes. This system grooms your lawn and helps train the grass to grow in the striped direction without compacting the soil. Plus, the springs and bristles move with the contours of your lawn—so on bumpy or uneven terrain, the kit flexes and adapts, maintaining consistent striping.

Q: Does it work on all grass types?

Yes! The brush has been tested and proven effective on all common grass types, including Kentucky Bluegrass, Fescue, Ryegrass, St. Augustine, Bermuda, and more. Results may vary based on mowing height, grass health, type, and sunlight exposure. Stripes typically last 2–4 days on average but can last up to 10 days depending on conditions like growth rate and overall lawn health

Q: Is the brush durable?

Yes, the brush features a thick hardwood block and stiff PET bristles that resist acids, solvents, fungus, and bacteria. It’s designed to perform well in both wet and dry conditions. While very durable, it will naturally wear over time with regular use. Replacement brushes are available separately to keep your striping kit working like new.

Q: Do I need to mow a certain way to get stripes?

Yes, you need to mow in straight or diagonal lines and can even overlap stripes if needed. Just keep in mind that overlapping will make the most recent stripe more vivid, so the overall striping may appear less defined. For the sharpest contrast, maintain a cutting height between 3 to 4 inches, which is ideal for most grass types. The direction of sunlight also plays a big role—mowing with the sun behind you enhances the visibility and contrast of your stripes.

Q: Is it easy to install?

Yes. The kit includes all necessary hardware, and installation typically takes less than 30 minutes. Only basic tools are required. We also provide a detailed step-by-step video to guide you through the process and make installation as simple as possible.

Q: Can I leave it on my mower?

Absolutely. Our kit is lightweight and low-profile, so there’s no need to detach it when transporting. For transport or storage, simply raise your mower’s cutting height to keep the brush off the ground and protect it from unnecessary wear. The kit is chemical and water resistant so you don't have to worry when washing your mower.

Q: Is there a warranty?

We’re proud of the build quality of our brackets and hardware. That’s why we offer a limited lifetime warranty covering manufacturing defects—not general wear and tear.

Minor imperfections in the metal or powder coating are normal due to the nature of the materials and manufacturing process. These do not affect the performance or durability of the product. However, if you have any concerns, feel free to contact us—we want you to be confident in your purchase.

Since powder coating and pivot points naturally wear over time, cosmetic changes, surface rust, and normal wear from regular use are not covered under warranty.

The brush is also excluded from this warranty, as it is a wear item by nature.

All claims are reviewed on a case-by-case basis. We reserve the right to deny claims that fall outside of the warranty’s intended coverage—such as those resulting from misuse, improper installation, or unusual operating conditions.

If you have questions or believe you’ve received a defective product, reach out to us at info@otlstore.com — we’re always happy to help.

Q: Do you accept returns?

Yes, please email us at info@otlstore.com to initiate your return. Please note: unused kits in original condition can be returned within 30 days of delivery. Return shipping is the buyer’s responsibility unless the product is defective. Used or worn components (including the brush) are not eligible for return. Please see our Return Policy page for more details.
